PINOY APPOINTED TO HIGHEST POST AT PGA WEST

What reminds you of the PGA West in La Quinta, California? Top of the list is a six-course facility - three of
them private and the other three resort - that has become not just a favorite getaway destination but the address for Hollywood celebrities, PGA Tour pros and even Presidents.
It’s also on the rotation for PGA Tour events, the most recent of which was the American Express at the Stadium course won by Korean Si Woo
Kim last January. It was also at the Palmer private course of PGA West where David Duval shot his famous 59 in 1999. For us Pinoys, there’s something to be proud of when we by chance get on the exclusive grounds of PGA West that covers more than 800 hectares of prime property in the scenic town of La Quinta. A Filipino was just picked by the owners of PGA West to become the new Director of Golf for the three private courses at PGA West in La Quinta, California. He is Eric “Maui” Temeña, one of three brothers who are all into golf management and the son of a widowed real estate developer here in the country. His brothers Erwin and Ellery are the general manager and golf director of the Eastridge Golf Club. “After a rigorous nationwide search, Eric Temena has been selected as the new Director of Golf for the three private courses at PGA West in La Quinta, California,” the advisory to members of PGA West said.
Born and raised in the Philippines, Maui immigrated to the US after college to pursue a career in golf. Prior to his appointment at PGA West, Eric worked at Brentwood Country Club, a high-end private country club in Los Angeles, California, for the past 18 years and became the Head Golf Professional for the last five years.
Eric is a PGA of America Class A Professional with a certificate in Golf Management and a Bachelor of Science degree in Secondary Education from Don Bosco College Seminary in the Philippines. Eric is an active volunteer with youth and veterans and enjoys sharing his love of the game with others. Eric served as a golf coach at University High School, reviving the boy’s golf team and forming the first-ever girl’s golf team between 2013-2020.
“Eric prides himself on customer service and Member satisfaction. Under his supervision, his current golf operations team has developed a reputation of being among the most welcoming and professional staff in the golf industry. As the head golf professional at Brentwood Country Club, he trained and developed assistant golf professionals who attained their class A PGA membership,” the members advisory said.
